Tuesday at the Table + A Winner

If you know anything about the Pacific Northwest, you most likely are atune to the fact that this is coffee country. We are a coffee-stand-on-every-corner kind of place. There are the big brands and the unique one of a kind coffee shops. There are fair trade shops, locally-owned, drive-throughs and even shops in most grocery stores.

And just about every one has coffee cards. I happened to notice this picture on facebook recently.
Obviously I'm not the only person who has a pile of empty {Starbucks} cards in their junk drawer. Around these parts, we get these cards as thank yous, at gift exchanges, even in our Christmas stockings. Whenever I happen to get a unique one, I toss it in the drawer once it's used up. And embarrassingly enough, there's my collection below. I have a special fondness for the snowmen. And those unique to a location like Hawaii or Seattle.
Is that crazy or what? But you know, as much as coffee is a fad here, most of the shops I frequent are actually gathering places. For alot of folks, the local coffee shop is their neighborhood. A little bit of the table away from home.

Meanwhile it's time to announce the winner of that copy of Patchwork, Please! Congrats to #78, Judy V, who commented:
Judy, I am emailing you! I know you will really enjoy making some Zakka "littles"! I was pleased to see how many kitchen and table items are coming up in the Zakka 2.0 :: Patchwork, Please sew along! There's placemats, a darling apron and more. Thanks to all of you for your excitement about Patchwork, Please and the sew along! Lots of fun ahead!

  1. What a fun collection! I loved all the little drive-through coffee stands that seemed to be everywhere the last time I was out West. We don't really have many true coffee shops around here but all the farmers still gather at the local cafes for coffee and gossip!

  2. That's so fun! I always appreciate when companies go to the effort to make fun and unique gift cards, but I never thought about collecting them.

  3. I LOVE to give/receive Starbucks cards for little gifts. They're perfect for teacher gifts at the ends of school years! I don't keep mine though - always practical and not wanting to keep clutter, I throw them away when empty!! :) They do look very cool altogether though. In October when I was in Seattle I had myself a vanilla latte from Starbucks and my uncle said to me "What??? You're having Starbucks in SEATTLE??" haha

  5. We visited Seattle about 10 years ago. I wasn't an every day coffee drinker then but I had the occasional cup. I do remember seeing all of the public libraries and coffee houses. Both things are perfect for your weather. Thanks for the reminder of a great trip.

  6. Congratulations to Judy V!!! I hope you have lots of fun with the book. Please share with us the projects that you do.

I am a coffee-a-holic. Love my coffee, in most shapes and forms. I am sure that if I looked hard enough I too would find a cache of Starbucks and (sorry) Peets Coffee cards. What a fun collection you have!

  8. Awww, I spy with my little eye, the Seattle one! My "official" card is that one, and it's so old that it's cracking. I guess it's a good thing we're moving back! ;) I don't save any others - I would forget which ones are empty.

  9. I love the cards - I have a small collection as well. I have not seen the location ones yet, at least in NC. I love seeing what else they will come up with.

  11. Back when I was a teacher, I used to have a ton of these - that was back when Starbucks gift cards were especially the rage. Funnily enough, I can't get into coffee (I've tried, believe me), and though I enjoy a frappecino now and then, I figure my Diet Coke addiction is enough to support for now...
