An Accurate Definition

"Swoon": feel faint with joy: to be overwhelmed by happiness, excitement, adoration, or infatuation.

If that doesn't describe perfectly what I felt as I worked on and finished this quilt, I don't know what does.

Using Kate Spain's Terrain seemed the perfect choice when I considered making my Swoon quilt. The colors and patterns in this fabric line were a joy to work with, and every block I made was my new favorite.

For the backing, I decided on large color blocks, separated by a row of pieced scraps. (Though, seriously, can anything Terrain be considered a "scrap"?)

When it came time to quilt, I decided to repeat what I had done on my first one-block "mini" Swoon, except on a much larger scale. Basically, I stitched an 'X' from corner to corner, then straight-line echo-stitched in each quadrant, about 1" apart.

Finally, I made some striped binding, which I think did a good job of pulling the various elements of the quilt together.

And so here, at long last, is Swoon.

My infatuation with this striking pattern by Camille Roskelley has not worn off, as you can tell by my flicker gallery and my Pinterest board. And now finally, I have a big beautiful Swoon quilt of my very own. Yay.
