Tuesday at the Table

My story today is short and sweet, and alas there are no pics. But it's too good not to share and remember. . .

So once a week, I pick up grandgirl (28 months) from childcare, and she and I and hubby and my mom "gg" all  spend the evening together. Usually it's at our house, and as I finish up dinner, my mom  and grandgirl set the table. Well this last week due to a crazy schedule, we all met up at gg's. And seriously, as mom and I pulled together our simple meal, grandgirl opened cupboards and drawers and began to set the table, totally unprompted, and with very little direction. Admittedly, it was not the most orderly of table settings, but there were placemats, napkins, plates, silverware, and with gg's help, glasses - for everyone. And with dinner ready to go, grandgirl directed each of us to our seats.

It's a simple thing really, but a precious reminder of how young our little ones "get it". And grandgirl "gets" how families work together, and the importance of the table. And what a blessing that is.

  3. I agree Debbie. They start young wanting to help. The dish washing, not so much.....

  4. What a sweetie! It always amazes me how much these little ones understand. We often don't give them enough credit. They can do more than we think and absorb everything. It's great that you are giving her such lovely things to absorb!
