selfish sewing week :: the plan

When I heard about selfish sewing week {September 23-29} sponsored by imagine gnats and Made with Moxie, I was totally up for it. Totally. Now that it's here, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with the other things I've got going - you know deadlines, bee blocks, WIPS! But I'm going to try to at least focus on myself a bit - not huge goals, but all things I would enjoy:
  • a new mug rug for my office - easy peasy, but I've been wanting to do this for a while now.
  • a new bag - maybe a Nora Clutch; I'd really like to make a 'For Pleat's Sake' Tote too, though I need to see if I can find the handles in the U.S. If I could even find them and order them this week, that would make me happy.
  • quilting on my improv quilt - something I'm already working on, but it IS for me, and I'd really like to get it done by month's end.
  • a scrappy quilt - I had the lofty goal of making one a quarter in 2013, and I've only made two. I'd love to get another one going though I haven't decided on a pattern yet. Something fun would be good - suggestions?
Are you planning some #selfishsewing this week? If so, do join the flickr group, and there's even a Pinterest page. Hoping you can find even a little time every day to sew for yourself! Kinda hoping that for me too.

  1. What a great idea...it's so easy to get bogged down with obligation type sewing.

  5. I'm in the same boat - lofty ideas when I heard about it and now I know I'll struggle to stay focused on ME. My schoolhouse tunic is a Must Do and the back for xPlus are at the top. Good luck with your plan

  6. I think that as quilters, most of our sewing is for others. I am finishing up two baby quilts for a shower this week. Fun sewing, so it's kind of for me. ; )

  7. Hi Debbie! That bag would be great! I love this week's idea when I first heard it from you. Now I have also planned so many works on this week ... should I try to make some foundation pieced letters - just for myself?!
Have a lovely week! x Teje

  8. Great goals for the week. I didn't know about the selfish sewing week but had already started my own, making a shirt over the weekend and hunting out fabric and pattern for a jacket. What a great idea.

  9. Looks like fun... I can't believe the week is here already! I'm actually going to focus on my stalled projects this week because it's going to feel SO GOOD to move them forward. Kind of a double negative = positive thing.

  12. I do feel little overhelmed too. I plan to do at least one more hexie trivet for myself :-)

  13. Just catching up on some blogs this week, I've gotten behind! Looks like a great plan Debbie. I've been thinking of whipping out some mug rugs myself. Feel like one big project is overwhelming for me and I need some little things!!
