Mingled
Here's another do.Good Stitches finish - the latest from Faith Circle. I asked my bee mates for a mix of half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles, and half-square plus quarter-square triangles - a mix I really love.
You'll find great tutorials for all in Emily Dennis' How to Sew a Perfect Quarter-Square Triangle on Craftsy. They are a fun easy sew, and as you can see, look great in a solid and print combo.
I pieced just a few extra blocks into the backing, along with some stash solids. And then! Quilting.
I think this was the most fun I've had quilting in a while! I was at a loss at first, but finally cracked open Jacquie Gering's Walk book and settled on The Boomerang design. Let's just say it looks more complicated that it really was to execute. I tried Cotton + Steel 50 wt thread #753-1095, which provided a little contrast yet still blended really well.
The quilt finished at 48" x 56" and will soon be headed off to Valley Breast Center. And I'm happy to be caught up with my "outside" commitments, that's for sure.
that's a great quilt! I love the mix of half square/quarter square triangles, so good! I still have the Walk book from the guild library. I need to peruse it again before I quilt my latest
ReplyDeleteIt came together beautifully and matches your photography locations so well, too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt Debbie! Blues and greens hold a special place in my heart and this are just wonderful together. As Yvonne in previous comment said, the setting is so perfect for this quilt- big blue skies and green, green grass!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is wonderful, and seems to have a nice calming effect. Perfect! I really like your quilting choice for it, too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish and photos.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.
Sometimes the simple designs are the best and this colour combination is great! Your photos are great - excellent location! And you've done a lovely job of getting a good quilt swirl - no mean feat!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! I love your quilting--I have that book and took a class in the beginning of April for machine quilting with a walking foot. Thank you for reminding me to go back through that book!
ReplyDeleteI love this! The triangles and the lovely color!
ReplyDeleteI need to look into that book for quilting! I adore this quilt. The mixture of colors is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWow this looks lovely.
ReplyDeletewonderful...I just love it.
ReplyDeleteOh, it’s gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. From the first glances on IG to now reading the blog post - I am still in love. The modern style and the "simplicity" and colors... I am glad you found such an stunning quilting design.
ReplyDeleteFantastic quilt!
ReplyDeleteYour phrase about the quilting, "at a loss at first," is how I look at every quilt I make that's waiting to be quilted! It's always a moment of truth for me, when I realize how my thinking doesn't free me to the possibilities, but rather I limit myself to second-guessing what I might come up with. Usually I end up with the same-'ole/same-'ole types of designs. Good for you to look "beyond" and find something new to do that makes you happy. The quilt is stunning! As is the location of your photo shoot. Is that a special home in the background? Or yours?
