I love that I routinely get phone calls that start, "Hello. I want to make a pie." Or even more common, "It's me. I have a cooking question." Of course it's not surprising in these days of texting, that just this week I got separate texts asking about the ingredient list for Nanaimo Bars, and how to make vinaigrette. Which is all quite amusing to me, considering I spend way more time sewing and blogging than I do cooking these days. But that hasn't always been the case, and my roots in food-love and the table are deep. So these calls and texts are a good and welcome reminder of what truly feeds me and my family and friends. And I am glad for them all.
I wish I loved to cook.
ReplyDeleteOh Nanaimo bars! Always a favourite!
ReplyDeleteI get those requests, too, and I find it delightful.
ReplyDeleteAnd now you must share your recipe for Nanaimo bars!
I remember making a few of those calls to you over the years, including a certain S.O.S. call following a tart versus oven disaster. Good times! That vinaigrette is my favorite btw...so versatile.
ReplyDeleteNanaimo bars - making me hungry! Those babies are so delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to love a day in my kitchen best - now - I love to be in my sewing room best, but sometimes......I still try new recipes :)! Nanaimo bars in our house has become a Christmas favorite, and we will color the middle green at that time. Those bars are yummy at any time of the year!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter in California will call once in a while with a food related question. I think the rest of the time she is eating out!
ReplyDeleteLOL I get these calls & texts from both my adult children. I love it! Brings joy to my heart to know they are COOKING!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of cooking....I watched the Netflix series called: Cooked by Michael Pollan and highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteMy hubs does ALL the grocery shopping and cooking now, so unless there's a special request for something I already know how to make well, like my French Bread or Oatmeal Cookies, I'm not interested in cooking. I completely relate to having a life engaged in quilting... well, when I'm not going through a phase of indifference!
