For some reason, the challenge of creating something with an 'assigned' color holds an unexplained appeal. Such is the significance of the newly-announced Pantone Color of the Year in my little quilty world. I'm not really into fashion or seasonal trends, but I do like exploring with color and fabric and know I'll have fun with Ultra Violet! Daughter dear has already ordered official Color Swatch Cards for us, so we can do some fabric matchy-matching, which is all part of the fun.
A little déjà vu is in order, more for my benefit than yours, I know! But I do enjoy reviewing my pantone-inspired journey as I head off on the next one!
:: Rose Quartz and Serenity 2016 :: "Pantone Meets Bias Tape"
:: Marsala 2015 :: "Sizzling"
:: Emerald 2013 :: "An Emerald Table"
:: Tangerine Tango 2012 :: "Tangerisk"
So how about you? Will you be giving Ultra Violet a go? Like it or not, I think it's a great exercise! Several of the colors above are ones I never would have chosen to work with, but I've come to appreciate most of them (still love that Marsala!). And I have no doubt dabbling with them has expanded my appreciation of color, and for that, I'm glad.

The 2018 color is gorgeous. I can't always work it into my plans for the year, but I do enjoy seeing how people use the fabric as a challenge throughout the year. Your retrospective of years of this is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteAll of these are beauties, as 2018 a Ultra Violet will be! I may have to give it a go this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your 'color of the year' interpretations, beautiful quilts all.
ReplyDeleteAnd Ultra Violet is a love of mine, the color and the movie with Milla Jovovich.
The color violet shines with its contrast colors, I get excited just thinking about it!
I love challenges and for some reason haven't participated in Pantone challenge before. I may need to do something about that. Enjoyed seeing yours through the years.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of trouble with "assigned" colors....but if I happen to stumble upon a color and it speaks to me, then in can go with it...
ReplyDeleteI am totally blown away at how you can use these colors wo beautifully...hugs, Julierose
oh yeah! I'll be playing along. looks like a great color to me!
ReplyDeleteI love working with assigned colors! While I'm not a huge fan of purples, Ultra Violet is already growing on me. I think that is because it's on the blue end of the purple spectrum. I never got round to the Greenery quilt I wanted to make; but since that is one of my favorite colors, I still plan to make that this year. I think I want to do something with Ultra-Violet as well. Thanks for sharing your past Color of the Year projects again; your work is very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing what you do with the colour of the year every year and seeing them all here was so fun! I love purple so I can’t wait to see what you do with this one!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you and your daughter will share which fabrics the Ultra Violet swatch card matches! This is one color I can get behind! It's very exciting!
ReplyDeleteTerrific post!!! What fun to see your quilts from previous years. I am thrilled with the 2018 color - I love ALL of the purples.
ReplyDeleteSinice I love the cool colors and have a ton of purple in my stash I will be enjoying this. I also love clothes and this color looks great on me so I will style some outfits around it as well.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Great job
ReplyDeleteI conveniently already have a project in the works that features this color heavily! A happy coincidence!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see your Pantone review in quilts. Gosh, you've been really diligent about making a quilt each year. I, on the other hand, will only make a quilt if I like the color. Radiant Orchid is the only one I've participated in. Ultra Violet seems intriguing, and I think I'd like to try working with it. So, if you and your daughter come up with the fabric equivalents in Painter's Palette solid (my absolute favorite) or Kona solid, please share with us. Thanks for such an interesting post. I wish I had a series of quilts like yours that I could share. You do beautiful work, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteI've made Pantone quilts for the past 3 years and I enjoy the challenge. I wait with bated breath for the announcement and it's never what I hoped for. I love your Marsala quilt as well. I already have my thinking cap on and a stash with plenty of purple so there's no excuses! Looking at your different projects has broadened my options - thanks!
ReplyDeleteI've never done a Pantone color challenge. I need to find out more about, even if purple is my least favorite color! lol
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your creation!
ReplyDeleteI joined the 2017 Pantone Challenge for the first time in 2017, greenery. Thinking of joining in again this year. Your quilts are beautiful.
