October Bee Blocks

After being so late with last month's bee blocks, I made this month's top priority. Knowing the time involved and my love of paper-piecing *not*, I tackled the the blocks for Always Bee Learning first. Stephanie/spontaneousthreads asked for Windmill blocks from "Modern Blocks, 99 Quilt Blocks from Your Favorite Designers". This book is one of my favorites, and though I have made many blocks from it, I had never made this one by Lynne/Lily's Quilts. Stephanie sent us all the Sketch background, and we used scraps from our stash for the triangles. One interesting bit in Stephanie's plan is that she asked us not to piece the 4 quarters of each block together. She plans to mix them all up to make the quilt super scrappy.

Elizabeth/occasionalpiece of the Mid-Century Modern Bee is working on "Santa's Village" by ThimbleCreek Quilts, mixing in some of her own blocks. I chose to make a Swamp Angel block, and am pretty pleased with the contrasting "Christmas" greens.

When I saw the "inspiration quilt" Katie/kldemare had in mind for That Stash Bee, I was thrilled. It was Alex/teaginny's Rugby Stripe quilt, which I really love {tutorial here}. For such simple blocks, this design really packs a punch - go ahead, click through the link to see for yourself!

And then, there was FAITH Circle. MaryAnn/maremare312 asked for Scrap Box blocks, which I enjoyed way more than I expected to! Though setting them into their 12 1/2" blocks was a tad finicky for me, I loved the little blocks, and am contemplating making some for myself.

So whew! Time to get these all in the mail and move on down that list!

  1. I like those scrapy ones. Cool. Do you get to see the final quilt? I just wonder I see so many bee blocks everywhere but not so many bee quilts.

  4. That's a lot of bee blocks. Congrats on getting them done - you have more than half of the month left, what will you ever work on?

  5. Congrats on finishing all your bee blocks by the mid-month. I have an idea: let's send all of us industrious quilters up to the Nation's capitol and send all those non-industrious lawmakers to quilting class, so they can learn to get things done!

You can lead us all; I'm always impressed with how much you get done! Bravo on the blocks!!

  6. Love the scrap box blocks! I can see how that would be finicky to make into a block though.

  7. I've made a circle of geese block without the inner circle, and it was so time-consuming! I can imagine how long this version would take me!
Love the blocks you made for me. :)

  8. Way to get those blocks done! It's amazing the difference in effort that people expect, so I'm glad you got relief from the windmill with those stripe blocks!
