Patchwork Napkins

AnneMarie of Gen X Quilters recently created the cutest pattern for Patchwork Napkins! In our family, we have been cloth napkin users for years, even when the kids were little. So it was a no-brainer when AnneMarie asked if I wanted to participate in a blog hop! I was more than happy to whip up a set and share about her new pattern!
What's fun and unique about this pattern is the patchwork insets! I opted to use the pattern called 'broken dishes' for what I thought were obvious reasons. Plus with the backing/binding fabric I chose, I thought a bit simpler design would be nice. But the pattern does come with instructions for 4 different patchwork insets, which is a nice option.
There's nothing quite like a plaid on the bias, so that's how I cut my backing fabric. The self-binding technique is really awesome. Not only is it easy with AnneMarie's instructions, but it makes such a nice finish.
I used white Essex linen/cotton blend as my main front fabric, and as you can barely see, there's a bit of show-through. Not that I mind that one bit, but just something to consider if you do. Also, my set of napkins is the 'formal' size. We really aren't that formal around here, but we do like a hefty napkin, and these definitely do the trick.
AnneMarie had quite a few pattern-testers before she published - check out the variety of their work here. All sorts of ideas for fabric choices! A Quilter's Table is the last stop on the blog hop, but do go back and see what the other bloggers created as well.
*This giveaway is now closed. Thank you!*
AnneMarie has kindly offered to give away one copy of her Patchwork Napkin pattern. Just leave a comment on this post, and I'll choose a random winner on Monday. Won't a set of these look great on your own table?

  17. I'm glad you mentioned the "show-through." Until I noticed that I imagined that there wasn't a back on the napkins, and that there was some nifty (but complicated) way the seams were encased. Glad it's actually easier than that!

  22. I love the colors of your block in the napkin. I am not good with block names, so when other bloggers asked what pattern was a favorite I keep saying the half square triangle one. Thanks to your post, I now know I like broken dishes and most likely will make them in the larger size also. Thank you for a chance to win.
