What's fun and unique about this pattern is the patchwork insets! I opted to use the pattern called 'broken dishes' for what I thought were obvious reasons. Plus with the backing/binding fabric I chose, I thought a bit simpler design would be nice. But the pattern does come with instructions for 4 different patchwork insets, which is a nice option.
There's nothing quite like a plaid on the bias, so that's how I cut my backing fabric. The self-binding technique is really awesome. Not only is it easy with AnneMarie's instructions, but it makes such a nice finish.
I used white Essex linen/cotton blend as my main front fabric, and as you can barely see, there's a bit of show-through. Not that I mind that one bit, but just something to consider if you do. Also, my set of napkins is the 'formal' size. We really aren't that formal around here, but we do like a hefty napkin, and these definitely do the trick.
