Fresh Sewing Day

May was a very good month! All my bee blocks were made from new-to-me tutorials, which was fun. And there were a few other small quick gift-giving projects - fabric twine, one of Jeni's lined drawstring bags, and a pair of Noodlehead's Open Wide Zippered Pouches.

The month had several unique opportunities. First, I had the special pleasure of pattern testing for two friends - Patchwork Napkins by Gen X Quilters (shown above) and Canvas by she can quilt (below). I also had a little extra fun with the Canvas pattern by making it again in extreme miniature - twice (see pincushions above). I thoroughly enjoyed both of these excellent patterns and fully expect to use both of them again.
I also participated in the Modern Metallic challenge given to the modern quilt guilds in the Pacific Northwest using metallic fabrics donated by Robert Kaufman. I'm happy to say that my quilt, ástərisk, was chosen to be displayed in the Quilt! Knit! Stitch! exhibit this August.
And to top things off, Sara of Sew Sweetness kindly shared some of her new Jungle Ave., and with it, I created Spiraled Jungle. What a fun line! I was really impressed how well the prints just 'fit' together.
All three of these quilts, though on the smaller side (in order: 24" square, 31"x36", and 34"x36"), were full of happy sewing. Whether it was the palette, the fabric, the quilting, the variety of techniques, or the designs themselves, each was just a real joy to make - the very best kind of creating!

  12. Love all your finishes, but am curious about the two blocks in the upper left corner. How did you make the block with the four different colored quadrants. I always forget the name of it, sorry.

I loved how your Jungle Quilt turned out--love the allusion to the city as a jungle--well done!

Fun to see Leanne get a pattern out into the quilting world (and fun to see you test it for her). You had quite the month!
