* Let's Get Acquainted! *

Plum and June

Welcome to A Quilter's Table, just one of the stops on the Let's Get Acquainted! blog hop!

The whole purpose of this hop is to get to know each other better. So for those of you visiting for the first time . . . My name is Debbie and I live in a Seattle suburb with my hubby of 30+ years. We have a grown son and daughter, a son-in-law and a little granddaughter. And my mom lives very close by, which is really great. I work full-time on staff at a good-sized church, so for me, it's office work all day, and then to the sewing room once the chores are done at night. Besides being an avid sewist, I'm also a foodie, which explains my weekly blog feature, Tuesday at the Table.

Here's some of my very favorite projects from the last year or so. I really love using a wonderful pattern, but I also enjoy doing twists on a pattern, or coming up with my own design. So you'll see a bit of all that in the mosaic below.

The blog hop is being hosted by Beth of Plum and June, and she suggested a little Q & A, so here goes . . .
  • How long have you been quilting ~ I've been quilting for a long time - 20+ years. But it's only been in the last 18 months that I've been exposed to modern quilting and machine quilting, started blogging, and really joined in the online quilting community.  And what an inspiring and affirming time it has been!
  • Favorite quilting tip(s) ~ Accuracy is key for a beautiful finished project. And pressing makes all the difference.
  • Favorite blogging tip ~ Be yourself and do what you love, but don't be afraid to try something new!
  • Favorite fabric (or wish list fabric) ~ Oh I have alot of favs. In general, I'm more of a 'geometric' than 'floral' person, and I tend to learn towards the cool colors. I had quite a love affair with Terrain for a while, though my stash is nearly depleted. And I love Metro Living Circles by Kaufman and dots of any kind. I also have a Pinterest board where I "store" fabric likes too.
  • Favorite quilting tool ~ My big discovery of the past year has been the hera marker. It has made machine quilting so much more fun for me.
  • Binding - by hand or by machine? ~ By hand is the only way for me, and one of my favorite steps in the process, so I'm not about to let it go.
  • What I wish I knew about blogging before I started my blog ~ How fun it is and how much I'd learn!
Now the theme of the hop is novelty prints, and honestly, I haven't used many. But I do enjoy the Melody Miller lines, and have bits and pieces which I've just started using. For the blog hop, I designed a handy holder to keep my blog business cards, mini-cards, and note cards all in one place, and have included a little moleskine notebook because I love to write lists and notes! Using my Ruby Star Shining typewriters made this project uber fun.

My tutorial is a tad wordy and picture-heavy . . . hopefully to make the process all very clear to follow, so I posted it in its own post. You can find the complete tutorial here, or a printable pdf here
I really hope you enjoy this little project, and if you do make one, I'd love to have you add it to my flickr group, Quilting with A Quilter's Table.

Be sure and visit some of the other blog hoppers too! Also up today is Sarah from Silly Banana SewingKelly from Jeliquilts and Yzo from Chez Roo posted great projects earlier in the week, and up next are Jennifer from Sewlandia and Nicole from Mama Love Quilts. Believe me, you won't want to miss meeting these awesome bloggers!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you visit A Quilter's Table again soon!

  6. Great post! I'm really enjoying reading the q and a's. I like how you paired the typewriters with that print fabric. Oh, and the typewriter fabric is actually why I chose novelty prints!

  27. I love your Swoon blocks/quilt! I've made two blocks so far... one that was turned into a mini quilt for a swap, and the other one is for a quilt for my husband and myself.. I don't expect it to be finished in a hurry though, I've got a few other projects that are a little higher up the list!
