So what do you do when you find yourself in my situation? Force yourself, because you started something? I admit I've got a good resource and great fabric, but this isn't a must-do, and I'm giving myself permission to let it go. I tucked the finished blocks into the book, put it back on the shelf, and put the fabric away. I may or may not revisit it at a later date, and either is ok. It's time to work on something I can sink my heart into.

When You're Not Feeling It
Last month I hopped into the Patchwork City BOM midstream, fully intending to catch up and finish out the calendar with the group. I had fond memories of last year's City Sampler Quilt Along, and just really thought I would enjoy doing a few blocks a week out of this terrific book.
But I've run into a few roadblocks. I'm not catching up. When I do work on them, I'm ignoring the paper-pieced blocks and only doing the pieced ones. My choice of fabrics for this project isn't speaking to me. In short, I'm just not feeling it.

I have decided too, that life is too short to work on something I don't love or enjoy! I do the same with a novel- if I don't like it, I give up on it! After all there are too many other great books, or projects out there.....
ReplyDeleteLately I have been using things that are leftovers, orphan blocks etc as back art. They add nice color and are a nice surprise on the back.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many other things to work on and life is too short to waste on something you aren't crazy about.
ReplyDeleteI have similar projects that have sat in totes unfinished for longer than I would like to think about. I've always had an idea of a central location, such as Instagram, where we could list our UFO's for sale or trade. Kind of like the Instagram destash sales. Just a thought :)
ReplyDeleteYup. Let it go for now.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not feeling it now, chances are I won't feel it in 6 months. If I have one or two blocks made, then I turn those into potholders. Potholders make great hostess gifts, etc. No one ever buys a potholder for themselves. If I have several blocks, then I turn them into a baby quilt. NICU units usually prefer baby quilts about 30" square (check with your local hospital) so I bring it up to size. One time I had all of the blocks made for a lap sized quilt. ALL OF THEM. I just wasn't feeling it. I sent them all to a lady in Tennessee who put them together for a charity quilt. After one of these options, I return all the fabric to my stash.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely, ditch it.
ReplyDeleteGood for you!
ReplyDeleteI like that you are giving yourself permission to put it away. I'm feeling the same way with my Dear Jane blocks. Now that I've done all the pieced blocks I'm not feeling it anymore. Not sure I can put it away though as I've already done that twice...?
ReplyDeleteSo true! and who knows, you may open that book sometime, forgetting that those blocks are there, and be inspired all over again!
ReplyDeleteI applaud your wisdom Debbie. If you decide to donate them, someone may be thrilled with them and be inspired to tap into their own creative self. A win-win. As you know, whatever you decide will be right for you.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with Patchwork and Play--move on. I have a friend who will dutifully finish a book she doesn't like no matter what. Life IS too short. So put it aside and move on to something that makes you happy.
ReplyDeleteI so agree and that is why I Farmer's wife wife blocks remain unfinished
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. I haven't even started my BOM for this yet and I know if I started w/o really feeling like I want to do it, I won't be as enthusiastic.
