Tuesday at the Table

Last week's post mentioned a little ole recipe for Apple Cider Doughnuts, and I more or less promised to try them and tell you about them today. True to my word, I made donuts.

When my pans arrived (I love Amazon prime!), I posted a pic on Instagram, and there were some strong feelings shared! Ie. folks like donuts!
So Saturday morning, I tried the recipe, and to sum things up:
  • They were quick and easy to mix up.
  • They only had to bake 10 minutes.
  • They were especially fun to frost and 'sugar'.
  • They smelled great and were really tasty.
Honestly, I am always comparing this to that, and tried to spark some conversation about how they compared to a, you know, store-bought, fried-in-oil doughnut. But really, the family wouldn't have anything to do with talk like that. They just plain liked them. (All except grandgirl, who was highly suspicious, having never been tempted by a doughnut before. I guess we'll let her stay naive a tad longer.)

Anyway, we'll definitely be having home-baked doughnuts at our house again. And I don't have to look far for what recipe to try next, thanks to Elizabeth!

Maple Cinnamon Donuts (probably the next ones I'll try!)

Hot Chocolate Donuts with Marshmallow Frosting and Chocolate Glaze(!)

Eggnog Donuts
Cake Batter Doughnuts

Dark Chocolate Caramel-Glazed Cake Donuts . . .
. . . served with this caramel sauce instead of the caramel bits(!)

And Elizabeth's fav, Chocolate Cake Donuts with Buttermilk Glaze

So, I have two new single-use pans, which is not that great, but I will definitely put them to good use!
(Apologies to whoever emailed me another recipe, which unfortunately I cannot find. Please resend, and I'll revise the post!)

What do you have to link up from your table? A recipe? Some table-talk? A project for the table or kitchen?

Yum! I think I need to get a pan, I've never made donuts because I dreaded the thought of having to fry.

I have to say, I do love a good old-fashioned crispy fried doughnut, but the baked variety is really just as delicious, in its own way!

Eggnog donuts? Argh, my waistline is going to be in big trouble if I ever get one of those donut pans!

haha - I've been seeing what you've been pinning and have wondered how many donuts you've made this week. :) Unfortunately my kids have been introduced to donuts a looooong time ago. Keep grandgirlie innocent as long as possible!!

You should check out the Edible Perspective blog - she has tons of amazing looking donut pan recipes and she's even writing a whole cookbook on them!

:-O Those all look so good!! You tempt me! Too funny about a naive granddaughter LOL! I was just commenting on Amy's blog (Harriet Home maker) that I'm trying to cook healthier, but hey, it is the holiday season...

YUM! I pinned a bunch of baked donut recipes too and now I need to go bake some :-) Oh and we also mixed up eggs, like for scrambling but baked them in our donut pans and they came out perfect for bagel sandwiches!

I saw this pan this weekend when I was at Joann's buying some batting. I thought of your post. I, too, have a "few" single use pans and swore I wouldn't buy another one -- until I saw the Wilton cookie mold/pan for snowflakes....In my defense it was on sale and I had a coupon!

These look so yummy... and remind me of my grandma! :) Would you recommend getting two 6-donut pans, or get the 12-donut one?

Ooh, I LOVE donuts!! I haven't ever baked donuts, but we do fry up plain-old Biscuit out of the can ones sometimes on the weekends. Now I'm wondering where I can most quickly get my hands on one of those baking sheets. I'm blaming the donut craving and inevitable pants-tightening on you...

So are they cake-y donuts or the light and fluffy kind? Because I have a preference. ;) (Also, please stop posting donut pictures. Or post more and send me some.)

Yummy... Donoughts is not really a Danish thing (though you can get some mighty greasy ones at 7eleven)... Yours looks delicious however.

Oh, the peer pressure! I was placing an order online for some craft supplies, and what did they have on sale but a donut pan! I can't wait to try it!

Baked doughnuts is a great idea! I've never heard of them before, just deep fried. Must have way less calories and deep fried foods always give me a slower/harder digestion (sorry don't know how to explain it properly in english).
Yours look so tasty!

I really would have trouble fitting in my sewing chair if I eat all these doughnuts - but they look so good it would be worth the squeeze.

I live in a ski town, where olympians train. I have heard several people say "that the athletes are allowd to eat anything that they make from scratch."
My theory on this is "Don't be too hard on yourself, if you made it from scratch".

The donuts look wonderful & I gotta find me one of those pans. Our Thanksgiving was uneventful, lots of good food & good company BUT one year I remember my mother taking the turkey out of the oven and when she went to remove the stuffing (she always stuffed the bird/I don't) there were the paper towels she had used to dry out the cavity, all nice and cooked along with the stuffing. We got a good laugh out of that, but didn't eat those towels.
