Studio Two :: Design Wall

It may not look like much, but this 60"x80" flannel board is my new pride and joy! In other words, I have a new design wall! You may have seen my previous thread-covered batting, which has served me oh-so-well for the past few years, but I was just ready for something fresh and new and bigger.
Hubby chipped in to help by going supply shopping after I sent him a link to the Design Wall Awesomeness that Sew Katie Did created. I followed her lead and ordered a king size flannel sheet to cover my foam-board. Since Katie said that Anya said that Kaffe said this gray was a perfect color for a design wall, I was certainly game to try! And I love it! With the new wall and a freshly covered ironing board, the studio is looking pretty spiffy.

  1. Love it and envy your space to hang your design wall. I have a nice open studio with lots of windows....full of natural light, but on the other hand, no wall larger than 4'....so, I do covet your blank wall.

  2. it's perfect! what a great idea to use a sheet. I don't have a wall either, lots of windows, but I'm thinking of making a portable design wall that I can move around. oh I love the gray too

  3. That is true. I took a Workshop by Kaffe and he would really get chaffed if he saw the white of the design wall peeking between the blocks. He even sells a gray design wall flannel if I am not mistaken.

  4. my next one will be grey and it's good that I procrastinated because now I know to buy a sheet instead of yardage. enjoy that lovely blank canvas to make your next masterpiece on

  11. Oh hrm, I'm moving next month and just took down my quilt wall of batting and was just going to put another back up but this idea is already so neat and even looking I am changing my plan! Thank you for the timely post.

  13. I just moved to a new home and am making my design wall. I had no way to get large foam insulation in my car so I bought 1/2" 2x4 panels.Then taped those together in twos and covered with white batting, I will be installing 4 units total for an 8x8 wall in my sewing space. May I ask how you mounted this to your wall? I've got 2" velcro I'm thinking of using, but am afraid if I try to take a section off the wall the foam board will crack because it is thin.
    I use a bedroom as my official studio space with fabric storage and such.
