Summer Sampler 2020 :: Diverge

Flying geese and I aren't the best of friends, but I was very very careful, and thankfully this week's Summer Sampler block came out great. Designed by my friend Nicole Neblett of mama love quilts, Diverge makes an impact, while being composed of the most basic block designs. I love that.

I came very close to changing out that center square for something more 'exciting,' but I decided to just stick with the directions and I do think the placement of fabrics in this one is interesting - in a good way, of course. Not matchy matchy at all, and it reaffirms (to me at least) throwing in a solid here and there into a pile of prints (and vice versa). It's a good thing.

Week 1: Trellis     Week 2: Infinite Pinwheel
Week 3: Lakeside     Week 4: Tide Pool
Week 5: Brae     Week 6: Convergence

  1. Great piecing. Flying Geese blocks are like a math experiment to me.
    They can be used so many different ways too.

  2. Flying Geese are not my favorite blocks, either. I should probably practice piecing them some more. :)

  3. "Not the best of friends" made me laugh as I feel much the same way. I, too, was very careful and I think I did okay although I'm not so sure of the colors I used. I'm picking my way through scraps and trying to "sorta" stick to the suggested palette. Your colors, though, are lovely and quite pleasing.

  4. I love your fabrics! I used Lee Heinrich’s Perfect Flying Geese templates. What a game changer!

    1. Hi! I didn't see an email attached to your comment so I'll reply here to say that tho I don't have Lee's geese templates, I DO have the HSTs so I know they are very handy to have!

  5. I love flying geese but as HSTs I oversize them and trim them down with a block loc. That way I have really good points most of the time. You could try that :) And the block really is a fun design! xo Melanie
