Generation Q

I am a Q-Bie. 

In all honesty, I had never heard of Generation Q before they emailed me to ask if they could feature this quilt as their "Quilt Pick of the Week" last October.

I was honored, of course, and became a follower and regular reader of GenQ. So come April of this year when I saw they were using Kickstarter to generate the funds needed to take the e-zine to print, I jumped right in, offering a small token to support their effort. 

Well, in record time, they had the funds they needed, and their first copy is now in print and being distributed. Currently sold in online shops, as well as some of your local quilt stores, I must say, I like it at first glance, and am anxious to read it cover to cover.

As a thank you, all contributors to the Kickstarter fund got a bit of a thank you.

I knew it was coming, so was excited to see it in my mailbox on Saturday.

Included was a heart-felt thank you letter, a copy of editor Jake's book, Fast, Fun & Easy Book Cover Art, two copies of the new Generation Q, and a generous bundle of fabric - lots of Free Spirit Sunshine Linen and a half-yard of Rashida Coleman-Hale's Cute Bots in Pink.

Every once in a while it's nice to be a part of a new venture. I hope you check out the new magazine if you get a chance. And if you're a Q-Bie too, I'd love to know!

Featured - Generation Q

I swear, this quilt has a life of its own! 

During its making, for the For the Love of Solids Swap, I was as challenged as I have ever been - by the use of only solids, by the design in my head for which a pattern didn't exist, by my own insecurity in making a "good enough" modern quilt for a secret partner I did not know.

And yet, when it was done, I was pleased - with myself, and with my quilt. And off it went to my partner, never to be seen again. But then, it popped again {here}, and lo and behold, today it is being featured on Generation Q {here}.

I am humbled and honored that a quilt I designed and made would be anybody's "quilt pick of the week". And yes, I am also inspired. . . to keep challenging myself. . . to continue seeking inspiration and comradery from those in the quilting community. . . to travel further on this quilting journey I enjoy so much.

Another Day

I woke up this morning thinking I had nothing to blog about and feeling, honestly, bummed I wasn't on my way to the Sewing Summit. I mean, seriously, how fun does that sound?! I'm looking forward to hearing all about it!

Anyway, I got home from work and had some good mail - another of my 4x5 modern quilt bee blocks - this one from Leila of Sewn by Leila. It's darling, and with the block I made myself, and the ones from Julie of Relish and Meg from The Mad Quilting Librarian - I now have four amazing orange and grays. Two more are on their way, and the next round will be starting soon. I really am enjoying this bee! (Today's the deadline for the next quarter, if you are interested!)

I also got some great Heirloom fat eighths that I won from Angie at Stitching by Starlight. Always a good thing! (Thanks, Angie!!)

And I took time to stitch a bit and finish my third Swoon block. {see blocks two and three here}

On top of all that, I got an email from Generation Q blogzine saying they want to feature one of my quilts as their quilt of the week! Now that is seriously cool! In case you don't know, GenQ is "a community of modern and contemporary quilters, sewists and fabric addicts who love to create, are welcoming of new ideas and new styles while respecting what's come before and who enjoy creative expression of all forms." I love the inclusivity in that statement! So I'll let you know as soon as I see it up - we'll see what tomorrow brings!
