Ok, so I was downright stunned, as was she when I told her how many I keep in my kitchen. I guessed maybe 8 or 10. What a surprise when I got home and actually counted 16!
Somewhere along the line our family started putting rubber spatulas in each other's Christmas stockings - the funner the better. So these days, I have an eclectic collection. (Uh, 18 total in current use . . . not counting my six Christmas ones stashed in a safe place, of course.)
Last Friday, I read this post by The Pioneer Woman sharing about her favorite kitchen tools, and the same subject was being discussed on a recent Spilled Milk podcast {here}.

ReplyDeletewow! what a collection, I wouldn't know where to store all these. I think we only have ONE spatula, I think it's a pink breast cancer one, can't remember now where I got it. and I think we only have 3 of these other kind of cooking spatulas, one smaller one with a plastic handle and plastic "scooper" with slots in it, another large metal one-used the most, and one large all plastic solid for flipping eggs or pancakes I guess, actually I have an actual pancake flipping thing too, it's huge and keep getting stuck in the drawer when we open it, such a pain

ReplyDeleteLast night, I made Penne with roasted asparagus. The balsamic butter sauce was slightly sweet, so I think this dish could work nicely with an Easter brunch.

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not really a kitchen-y person so I don't have favourite kitchen gadgets. As far as spatulas (which I grew up calling "scrapers" and my husband grew up calling "pot lickers"!! hehe), I have 2. One large and one small. Gets the job done!

One of my favorite kitchen gadgets is my safety can opener. I loved my swing-away can openers, but they started shredding the paper on the cans which would get into whatever I just opened. I don't have that problem with the safety can opener and I can also use it for making my pop top cans surprise gifts.

And the last gadget is my cookie scoop. LOVE that thing. I need to get more sizes.
Good spatulas are awesome and I love the cute ones they sell at Target for different seasons. They had "naughty" and "nice" ones this last Christmas. :)
Got a good giggle out of your post. I can't quite keep up with you, but I certainly have more than 1. About 8 I think, but a few of those have seen better days & need replaced. Might have to make the replacements some fun ones instead of the same old, same old.

ReplyDeleteOhhh...I love kitchen things. I have 6 spatulas but my fave is the one with the aluminum (stainless?) handle and the green silicone scraper-part (technical term, I'm sure).
ReplyDeleteI love my Microplane grater - I use it for everything like lemon zest, parmesan, and grating frozen ginger into stir-fries. I also love my Kitchen Aid stand mixer and my bad-ass Kitchen Aid coffee grinder and....the set of double-Henckel's knives my hubby bought me for Christmas. The daughters' boyfriends think any gift that doubls as a weapon is very cool! (yes, I hid them after they said that)

Hey girl, I'm finally back online after a few weeks on no net :( I was so excited when I got my x and + blocks, because I got one of yours!! As soon as I saw it I said to my husband I got one of my friends blocks!! I just saw on Flickr that you got one of mine, how funny. Are you going to the Sewing Summit? I got my ticket this morning. ReplyDeleteI think we have 2 or 3 spatulas. I am a big wooden spoon person. The micro plane gets a lot so use though!!!!
ReplyDeleteFun spatulas! I think I have 4, plus the older boys each have a little one of their own. I have a rainbow silicon whisk that I love, but I try not to keep too many other gadgets. My salad spinner and microplane see a lot of use, though!
ReplyDeleteMy 8" Henckels chef knife is my favorite kitchen tool. Though a sturdy spatula is hard to beat...that's why we have whisks!!!
