The annual quilted item swap is basically a tradition with the Seattle MQG. At least, we've been doing it for years and years. A good-natured event, the swapping goes round and round, and there's a very good chance you'll open one gift and go home with something different!

It's always a bit of a quandary what to make for it, but this year I decided pretty quickly that I wanted to make something with our guild initials on it - SEAMQG. So I perused letter patterns, and chose My First Alphabet by Diane/From Blank Pages. They are paper-pieced, come in both 3" and 6" tall, and I went with the 3". Just a note, this means the letters are 3" tall, but they do vary in width.

I used several fabrics in teal, our guild color - solids for the SEA, and an older Alison Glass print for the MQG - as well as the lining, which I stabilized with some fusible SF101 interfacing.

The background for the letters was Essex natural, as is the complete exterior of the bag. I quilted the linen with some nice straight-lines, added a simple zip and leather pull, and the bag finished at about 12" x 18".

The project pouch indeed got swapped around a bit and went home with Cordelia, who seemed more than happy to have it. So all's well that ends well, right?

Living Coral

You know I've been lurking the Pantone website the last few days, just waiting for the 2019 Color of the Year to be announced. And finally, here it is!

I confess my first thought was, "pink flamingo"!?!? That was the Kona Color of the Year in 2017, and I actually became quite smitten with it. But yes, Living Coral feels quite familiar.

Still, I'm game to play with it in the coming months, just as I have with every Pantone COTY since 2012! It's what I do! Here's where I've been with my little tradition....

:: Ultra Violet 2018 :: "Grape Fizzy"

:: Greenery 2017 :: "Evergreenery"

:: Rose Quartz and Serenity 2016 :: "Pantone Meets Bias Tape"

:: Marsala 2015 :: "Sizzling"

:: Emerald 2013 :: "An Emerald Table"

:: Tangerine Tango 2012 :: "Tangerisk"

So what do you think? Overall, I think it's getting a better response than some. Whatever, it'll be fun to see folks creating with it in the new year.

It's time to start some serious holiday sewing, am I right? Here are some ideas I may repeat from my year of sewing.

For sure I have some Patchwork Potholders planned, as they're fun to make and oh-so-useful through the year. If you like the potholder idea, don't forget the Log Cabin Hexi Potholders - they're another of my favorites.

I'm also thinking about more Boxy Pouches. I think all my guys have a waxed canvas one now, but others might enjoy one made of quilted scraps.

Of course there will be more fabric gift bags, as that's what we do.

And this is purely a pipe-dream, as I haven't even bought fabric, but I'd love to make a slew of holiday pillowcases. Maybe next year!

So knowing time is relatively short, I've also curated some gift lists. SO many ideas - mostly for crafters, but not all. For the wider gift-receiving audience, be sure and follow along with Sew Mama Sew's Handmade Holidays 2018. Kristin's themed gift lists are always worth perusing! For your fellow-crafters, check out the following:
And just a reminder, I do have my own A Quilter's Table Amazon Storefront for even more ideas!

So do tell! What handmade gifts are you making this year? Or what are your favorite crafty gifts to give.... or to receive? Let's help each other out here!
