So what I'm going to share today is really simple. It isn't quite a tutorial, but an idea born out of desperation last Christmas Eve. I had run out of gift tags as I was wrapping gifts, and with a billion other things left on my to-do list, I grabbed what I had on hand and made do. Except what I ended up with was really kind of fun, and I liked it well enough to do again this year. So here you go, my reckless invention - Quilted Gift Tags.
Start with some plain shipping tags. I happened to have red on hand, but they do come in a variety of colors. For this project, I used the 4 3/4" x 2 3/8" size.
Now I took what was left from a quilted project . . .
and cut it into 2" x 3 1/2" pieces.
I was able to get several rectangles out of my one 'scrap.'
Just stitch around the edges of your quilted bits right onto the tags and voila! Add some baker's twine (I cut mine 12" long for each.) and you're all set. There's plenty of room on the back side to write your gift greeting.
I'm thinking this project is random enough to join in for Really Random Thursday. You agree?

Very pretty! (I don't think we have those red shipping tags here in Australia- just plain and boring buff ones!)
ReplyDeleteI think the tags on the buff paper will look cute as well.
DeleteGreat idea and a perfect use for the festive scraps I'm generating at the moment. Not sure we have red shipping tags here either but I'm sure I could quickly whip up some with some festive coloured card and a hole punch.
ReplyDeleteThat is so clever, they're the prettiest tags I've seen. Amazing what can be made when desperation sets in LOLL

ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! Great idea and where does one get the paper tags?
ReplyDeleteIn response to Carla's question, there is a link in the post to my favorite stamp shop: http://www.impresscardsandcrafts.com/shop/party-supplies/tags.html. I'm thinking you might also find these tags at Joann's, Hobby Lobby, Michael's....
ReplyDeleteSo cute, and so very Christmassy! My gift tags never get that much attention, though... think Christmas Seals ones. ;)
ReplyDeleteFun wee tags!
ReplyDeleteLove these tags - such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteWish I could find tags like this here in Italy. I've been looking for plain ones for ages but they've told me I can only order a box of 1000! Maybe I will order that box. Beautiful idea for Christmas tags, very personal.
ReplyDeleteYou take gift tags to an art Debbie and they are great. I'd have been completely happy with the red tags.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic idea! I don't know if I could be that creative at the last minute lol
