Stick and Stitch

A while back, I'd stitched up a couple of Dropcloth Samplers' Stick and Stitch patterns, without an idea of what I would do with them. Then recently I found I had some 3" bamboo wooden hoops, and thought I could use them together. I watched a video, 4 Ways To Back The Embroidery Hoop | Hand Embroidery 101 by The Authentic Embroiderer, and decided to try the 'cover the back with felt' method. It started with putting the embroidery into the hoop and gathering it on the back.

Then I followed the instructions in the video and stitched a felt circle to the back. For both steps, I used a single strand of Aurifil 12wt thread in a color that pretty much matched the fabric and felt.

  

Gotta say, I really enjoyed the process, and it went together neatly.

I liked it so well, I did it again.

So then.... I took both little embroidered hoops down to the Free Little Art Gallery Edmonds, where I've dropped off little art pieces many times.

Hopefully they'll find a new happy home!

From One to Nine

Do you remember Recast? 

Well, when I was looking for a finished small quilt to repurpose as mini mini quilts, she seemed like a good candidate.

I cut her up into nine pieces, both 4" and 5" squares.

I got two bound fairly quickly, including a label on the back to identify myself.

When we were in the neighborhood of the Free Little Art Gallery, I was able to drop them off.

In a fun twist, my guild-mate Tracey @traceyquiltspnw saw my post, was nearby, and swung by with a friend to claim the pair of mini minis!

Slowly, I worked on binding the rest, and it dawned on me to try Yvonne's @quiltingjetgirl tutorial for Binding Mini Mini Quilts with single-fold binding. It worked really well! I rummaged through my solids scrap basket for binding options, thus the variety of colors.

Yesterday, I made a trip back down to the Free Little Art Gallery to drop the mini minis off.... all but one, as happily, a friend claimed one of them before I could get there. 

Here's hoping the tiny quilts find a new home soon!

More Little Art

It had been a while since we had visited the Free Little Art Gallery in nearby Edmonds, so when I had just a handful of scraps left from making One More Time, I decided to make a pair of mini mini quilts to contribute.

I actually had a 'top' made and realized it was too large, so ended up using it as the backing for two smaller pieces. The two measure 3.5" x 5" and 5" x 5" and were pretty densely quilted. Of course, on mini mini quilts, that takes hardly any time at all!

So yesterday, hubby and I headed down to Edmonds to deliver the little quilts. The gallery was already well-populated, but we found room to sneak mine in too.

So the little art gallery visitors have a lot to choose from this weekend. And I feel good to have had the opportunity to share some art!
