100 Quilts for Kids Postscript

It was fun to be included in Kate's 100 Quilts for Kids flickr mosaic (see here). My sherbet pips quilt is all washed up and ready to go.

I just finished up a Storytime Squares quilt too. What a fun and quick little pattern by Rae Hoekstra of made by RAE! {find tutorial here} Most of the print fabrics I used are from Denyse Schmidt's new "Sugar Creek" line, but you'll see some "Fairgrounds" and other miscellaneous goodies in there too.

And, since Project Linus welcomes finished quilt tops, I am taking my finished Block-a-palooza quilt top, along with the backing I have pieced, and binding that's ready to adhere. Though this top is from my very first quilt-along (what fun!), it's just too big for me to quilt on my machine, and I think someone else might appreciate it more.
Revised to add this last-minute picture of Block-a-palooza

Lastly, I gathered up the charms I'd gotten in a recent Spoonflower swap, made a fun pouch for them, and have offered them to Kate as a prize for the 100 Quilts effort. Hope someone really enjoys them.

I've appreciated being able to support this good cause, while helping children in my own community. The quilt drive goes through October 15, so there's still plenty of time if you want to join in.

100 Quilts for Kids

100 QUILTS for kids is an annual charity event that I heard about from Kate at swimbikequilt. It's an  opportunity to join other quilters and donate our quilts to local children's charities. The quilt drive runs September 15 to October 15, 2011. You can find out all the details from Kate.

I'll be donating my Comic Strip Quilt made from Sherbet Pips, with the thought that the darling characters will appeal especially to a little girl.

I plan on donating my quilt to Project Linus, a National organization with a local chapter in my area. Operating since 1995, their mission is to "provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers." In South Snohomish County, where I live, fellow sewists can drop off quilts at the Everett Pacific Fabrics store, or The Needle & I. Let me know if you need more information about these locations or our local chapter.

I hope you consider joining your fellow quilters in this effort to help children!

W.i.P. Wednesday

Another week, and here we are at W.i.P. Wednesday again!

Completed projects
My Sherbet Pips Comic Strip Quilt is done!

The Dream Big top and backing are done and got delivered to the long-arm quilter yesterday!

I continue to make bow-tie blocks for the  Prairie Women Sewing Circle mini quilt - about 65/120 are done.

My Hoopla charm pack got combined with the Scrapbuster swap. I am loving this new {to me} method of making half-square triangle blocks and have a very good start on these blocks.

Ongoing projects
* Kaleidoscope quilt along hosted by don't call me betsy starts Thursday!
* Cappuccino Bali Pop "Light & Shadow". Still on the agenda.

Upcoming projects
Afternoon Snack table runner adapted from this pattern by G. E. Designs.
* Shades of Grey. Ideas are still percolating - tentatively to include my variety of KONA grays, and then adding that splash of {as yet undetermined, but I think I've decided} color. . .
* Stash quilt - Sew Katie Did's zig zag quilt. I'm hoping to get started on this at Katie's HST class on June 29!
* Quilts for our siblings.

On hold for a while
Block-a-palooza quilt along needs basted and quilted.

That's it for this week! Be sure and head over to Freshly Pieced to wander through other fun W.i.P.s!

The Race is On . . . postscript

Ok, so I mentioned a few days ago that the race was on to finish some projects before the upcoming quilt along and hst class starts later this month. But there's also a race due to new fabric coming out! Let me explain . . .

Whew! Finished my Geese in the Park using Kate Spain's Central Park . . .
and almost done with Dream Big for daughter dear . . .
so now looking forward to Kate's Terrain! Seriously can not wait!

Finished Ritzy Cracker with Camille Roskelley's Bliss . . .
so now anxiously waiting for Ruby.

And, just last night finished Annela Hoey's Comic Strip Quilt with Sherbet Pips . . .
Soon . . . Little Apples.
SO much to look forward to!

W.i.P. Wednesday

It's W.i.P. Wednesday again already! Unfortunately, some of what I've been working on can't be shown until my A Little Fabric, A Little Chocolate {Swap!} partner receives the package I sent off today. I'll give you another sneak peek, though, to prove I have been sewing!
Ongoing projects
I pieced the backing for my sherbet pips Comic Strip Quilt top so it's ready for basting and quilting. I used up my last pips charm squares to make an 'extra' block and put it on the back - kind of gets lost there - live and learn.
The KONA solids came for the Dream Big quilt for my daughter. So now I can cut fabric and really get going!

Block-a-palooza quilt along needs basted and quilted. (This will probably be waiting a while.)

Need to do
* Shades of Grey.
* Stash quilt - Sew Katie Did's zig zag quilt.
* Quilts for our siblings.
* The last project from the Pioneer Women Sewing Circle.

Be sure and stop in over at Freshly Pieced to see lots of fantastic projects! Have a great day!

Ongoing projects
My Comic Strip Quilt top using sherbet pips is done and waiting to be basted. Binding is ready to go!

Now that my Block-a-palooza quilt along top is done, it'll probably sit around for a while waiting to be quilted. Just sayin'.

Next on the sewing agenda is a Dream Big quilt for my daughter. I have made just one of Camille Roskelley's patterns before and really enjoyed it, so am anxious to get going on this one! For fabric, she picked out Kate Spain's Central Park, so it'll be fun to work with that line again. I've picked out my daughter's least favorite prints and will be adding some solids, which will be selected and ordered soon.

Last, but in no ways least, my supernova in DONE and posted on flickr before the deadline! I'll be sharing the story of this quilt on Friday with The Bloggers' Quilt Festival. I confess, I love this quilt!

Ongoing projects
I started Aneela Hoey's Comic Strip Quilt using sherbet pips and I am loving it! I have the basic blocks done; now need to add the gray borders . . . a fun, quick quilt.

I basted my supernova! I have a quilting plan, and am anxious to get going on it.

Finally, two weeks ago when my extended family was together (we live across the country from each other!), I told my daughter and my nieces about the Scrap Swap I had participated in a while back. We decided it would be great fun to have a family scrap swap! I have my envelopes ready for the girls, and will be mailing them off today! I'm looking forward to more quilty goodness for the stash quilt I want to make, plus fun times with some of my favorite young women!

Need to do
* Stash quilt - Sew Katie Did's zig zag quilt.
* Dream Big birthday quilt for my daughter.
* Quilts for our siblings.
* The last project from the Pioneer Women Sewing Circle.

Have a great day!
