There's alot of talk about scraps going around! (That there's my basket o'scraps second row down on the right!) It never even dawned on me until I started blogging and seeing other folks' scraps, that there might be organized scraps! Me, I toss them in the basket and dive in as needed.
Or, I just dump them all out and dig through them, like I've been doing this week, since I heard about the Scrap Attack. Basically the goal is to make a quilt mostly of scraps, finishing by the end of March. This year. It doesn't matter when you started, so feel free to pull out a scrappy w.i.p. to finish up. Check out Stitched in Color for all the details.
I actually have two scrappy projects going. One I've mentioned already - the Japanese x and + block swap. I managed to get one more block made, and honestly, I don't expect to finish this quilt in the next two months - it'll be a continued scrappy endeavour for a while, I'm sure.
But I do hope to finish my second project on time for the Festival of Scrappiness. I'm going to be a bit sneaky and just post the two blocks I have done so far. I'm curious if you can identify them from a recent new pattern floating out in blogland. I'll fess up if I need to, but I'm pretty sure you'll figure it out.
Anyone else joining the Scrap Attack? And if so, whatcha doin'?
I am far from organized with mine as they are just shoved into a drawer for right now. Eh, they are not a priority.
ReplyDeleteI have no clue what the pattern is (unless you mean a courthouse steps block), but I do love the bold colors from those two blocks.
Mine are basically organized right now, larger scraps in my ikea drawers and small (tiny) ones shoved in quart jars in my cabinet. Are you making Elizabeth's new quilt? The two blocks you've done look great so far!
ReplyDeleteWell, you have to organize eventually when the scraps overwhelm the basket! ;) Mine are sorted by color, which makes it easy to pull the necessary pieces for my Skorca, which is my scrap quilt for the first quarter of the year.
ReplyDeleteJumping up and down - me! me! I know!! :) Looking super fab so far, I think your scraptastic quilt is going to be a stunner!!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating, but I haven't decided what I want to do yet and which scraps I want to tackle.....
ReplyDeleteOooooh, I know what it is now, now that I read Elizabeth's enthusiastic comment! ;-) Definitely on my to-do list as well.
ReplyDeleteLove all the scrapiness you're working on. I've organized my scraps for my scrap republic projects, I'm hoping to start a new one soon.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are beautiful!! I feel l like I need a it more variety with my scraps before I can attack them!
ReplyDeleteI don't recognize the blocks from blogland other than being courthouse steps. Must be a blog I haven't discovered yet. My scraps are actually kinda sorted by designer, in ziplock bags, and then all thrown in 3 big bins. Not sure why they are organized like that, not very efficient....
ReplyDeleteI have no organization with my scraps. I have two pillowcases that my grandmother embroidered that I keep mine in and they are both CRAMMED full and sitting in a large plastic bin with batting scraps crammed in around them. I have decided that I will do a scrap quilt this year but I have about 5 UFOs that need to become WIPs and get done first. :)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are awesome!

Those are wonderful scrap projects, I am looking forward to see how the Modern Halves turn out with such saturated and more solid colours. My scraps are all over my tables and floors as I am using them for the 4 x 5 bee blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour off to a great start! Love those blocks. You may want to check out Jodi at Pleasant Home's site as she is doing scraps every day all month... and my scraps are all jumbled together too...:)
ReplyDeleteAll your blocks are looking good. You're off to a great start! Can't wait to see more. We'll keep each other motivated ok?
ReplyDeleteI just recently organized my scraps in separate containers by color. What a difference it makes! I do feel like I've got at least a couple of quilts in these scraps. Seeing your blocks inspires me to attack my scraps! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNice blocks!
ReplyDeleteI'm about to start a string quilt. It's my first big project, but I'm really excited about it.
wow those are some bright and colourful blocks - just my kind. I have only just discovered Scrap Attack but have signed up and am rearing to go. Like you I use the 'throw them in a basket' approach to scrap organisation. Should be quite a relevation when I start to go through them to make my quilt blocks!!
